Recent research shows positive changes in employee attitudes towards using AI tools at work. A seven-week study by Avanade surveyed 700 employees and highlighted the significant impact Microsoft 365 Copilot has had on employee experiences.
Research shows that employees are beginning to embrace AI tools
Research results showed that employees became more creative, collaborative and problem-solving after using AI tools. Significant improvements were noted in six human metrics: communication, creativity, trust, job satisfaction, sense of belonging and organizational citizenship behavior in the workplace.
45% of employees said they were less inhibited in communication when supported by Copilot. This shows how effective AI can be as a communication tool.
Overall creativity and innovation scores increased by two points compared to the same study last year. Adoption of new ways of working increased by nine points.
While the vast majority of employees (88%) saw Microsoft’s AI as aligned with company values, only 65% saw it as aligned with their personal values. This suggests that while AI is a valuable tool in the workplace, it is not fully aligned with personal values.
The research also showed how AI is helping to break the stagnation in the workplace. 85% of employees said they derived a sense of accomplishment from their work and 80% felt engaged in their tasks.
However, 92% of IT managers think an artificial intelligence-focused operating model should be adopted in the next 12 months, while only 48% have specific policies in place for responsible AI. Avanade emphasizes that upskilling employees and implementing ethical frameworks are critical to maximizing the benefits of AI.
“Ultimately, Copilot for M365 is not a ‘flip the switch’ technology, but when applied, it has the potential to improve communication and creativity,” commented Veit Siegenheim, Global Future of Work Leader at Avanade.
